Schaumburg Garage Door Pro | Schaumburg, IL
Choosing a new garage door is a bigger decision than most homeowners expect — it's one of the most visible parts of your home's exterior. Here's how to make a choice you'll be happy with for the next 20 years.
New garage door prices (installed) break down roughly as: basic single-car steel door $700–$1,100; standard two-car steel door $1,200–$1,800; premium insulated two-car door $1,800–$2,800; custom wood or carriage-house style $2,500–$5,000+. Decide your ceiling before you start shopping styles.
Steel is the most popular choice — durable, low maintenance, and available in many styles and finishes. It can dent, but most dents are purely cosmetic.
Aluminum is lighter and rust-resistant. Good for modern homes. More prone to denting than steel but never rusts.
Wood is the most beautiful but requires the most maintenance — staining or painting every few years. Real wood doors are premium products.
Fiberglass can mimic the look of wood without the upkeep, but doesn't hold up as well in extreme cold (it can crack in Illinois winters).
Traditional raised-panel doors suit colonial and craftsman homes. Carriage-house styles (with decorative hinges and handles) work with most architectural styles and are extremely popular in the northwest suburbs. Modern flush or glass-panel doors complement contemporary homes.
For attached garages in Illinois, we recommend at minimum R-9 double-layer construction. R-16 or R-18 triple-layer polyurethane is ideal. (See our insulated vs. non-insulated guide for the full breakdown.)
Top-panel windows add light and curb appeal, but reduce insulation value and raise the price. If your garage has other light sources, skipping windows is a reasonable choice. Privacy glass is available if security is a concern.
We install doors from Clopay, Wayne Dalton, CHI, and others. We'll bring samples and a catalog to your home so you can see colors and styles next to your siding before committing. No pressure, free estimates.
